A copy of the agreement of the year 16 of the Emperor Caesar Nerva Trajan Augustus Germanicus Dacicus, in the month of Augustus, in Ptolemaïs Euergetis of the Arsinoite nome. Helen, daughter of Heron, Persina, acknowledges that she will nurse and suckle her own child with her own milk for two years from the time of the agreement and will care for him for another six months from the time of his birth, receiving from Sarapion, son of Asclepiades, the guardian of the sea, and Althaeus, as follows: six drachmas per month for the nursing, two cotylae of oil, and one amphora of wine for the annual expenses, and four birds for the nursing period of six months, at the rate of one half-shekel per month.
Therefore, it is not permitted for Helen to abandon the child within the specified time, nor to give him to another, nor to spoil the milk or anything else, nor to perform anything contrary to this agreement, but she must also take care of him both by night and day, attending to this matter at all times.
If she abandons him or violates any of the terms, she shall pay him immediately whatever she has and the silver shall be paid with a penalty of double the damages, and she shall pay one hundred drachmas of silver to the public treasury.
