ῆσις ἦλθαν

τῶν ἀπὸ Ὀξυρύγχων καὶ ἐδίωξαν
τοὺς ἁλιεῖς Ὀξυρύγχ(ων) καὶ ὁ θεὸς

σφάλμα. οἱ οὖν ἀπὸ Ὀξυρύγχων

ἐγὼ οὖν οὐκ ἔασα
αὐτοὺς πολεμῆσαι,
θεὸς οἶδεν ὁ μόνος, ἢν οὐκ εὐκέρημε
εἰς Ὀξυρύγχων κακὸν εἰχι
γενέσθαι· ἰδοὺ γεγράφηκα τῇ
ἐξουσίᾳ σου, ἵνα δώσῃς αὐτῶν
ὥρον
καὶ σὺν θεῷ ἔρχομαι
μετὰ τὴν αὔριον φέρον
τὸ χρυσικόν.

the most magnificent
and virtuous
Anuthios, chief servant.
Those from the village of Kerkes came
to the shore
of those from Oxyrhynchus and pursued
the fishermen of Oxyrhynchus, and God
helped and there was no
fault. Therefore, those from Oxyrhynchus
wished to rise up
and to wage war
with those from Kerkes.
I therefore did not allow
them to wage war,
God alone knows, if it would not be
a bad thing for Oxyrhynchus to happen.
Behold, I have written to your
authority, that you may grant them
a time
and with God I am coming
tomorrow bringing
the gold.

† To our lord and master, the most magnificent and virtuous count, Anouthios, chief attendant.
Those from the village of Kerkesis came to the shore of those from Oxyrhynchos and drove away the fishermen of Oxyrhynchos, but God helped and no harm occurred.
Then those from Oxyrhynchos wished to kill and wage war against those from Kerkesis.
Therefore, I did not allow them to fight; God alone knows, had I not intervened, evil would have occurred at Oxyrhynchos.
Behold, I have written to your authority, so that you may give them a boundary, and with God's help I will come after tomorrow bringing the gold.
