I acknowledge that I owe you a loan of forty and sixty Tyrian silver denarii, which are fifteen staters, on the mortgage of the estate belonging to Eleazar, my father, of which I have the authority to place and to lease from the same Eleazar, whose neighbors are from the east, tents and Jesus of Mandronos, of the west, tents and the workshop of the same Eleazar, my father, the southern market and Simon of Matthew, the northern road and the praesidium, which I will repay you in the Kalends of January of the same year of the consulship, and I will provide you the interest of the same silver monthly as of the hundred denarii, one denarius per month. And if I do not repay you by the appointed deadline as it is written, the just thing will be for you to acquire, use, and sell the same mortgage without and the action will be for you and for anyone else through you or on your behalf. This letter is presented to you, both from me and from all my possessions, all that I have and all that I may acquire, acting primarily in the manner that the one acting chooses."

καλάνδαις Ἰανουαρίαις
In the consulship of Manius Acilius Glabrio and Torquatus Thebanianus, on the day before the Nones of May, in the village of Engaddi belonging to our lord Caesar, I, Judas son of Eleazar son of Chthousion, an inhabitant of Engaddi, greet Magonius Valens, centurion of the first milliary cohort of Thracians. I acknowledge that I have received and owe you as a loan sixty Tyrian silver denarii, which are fifteen staters, secured by the courtyard belonging to Eleazar son of Chthousion, my father, of which I have the right to mortgage and lease from the same Eleazar. The neighbors of this courtyard are: to the east, tents and Jesus son of Mandron; to the west, tents and the workshop of the same Eleazar my father; to the south, the marketplace and Simon son of Matthaios; to the north, a road and a guard-post. I will repay this money to you on the Kalends of January of the same year, and I will pay interest on this money monthly at the rate of one denarius per hundred denarii. If I do not repay you by the appointed deadline as written above, you shall have the right to possess, use, sell, and manage the said security without dispute, and the right of execution shall belong to you and to anyone acting through you or on your behalf who presents this document, against me and all my property, both what I currently possess and whatever I may acquire in the future, in whatever manner the executor chooses.
