To Tiberius Claudius Herod, the general, from Theon and Aristander the elder and Aristander the younger of the three Aristanders from the city of Oxyrhynchus. Leonides, son of Ptolemy Althaeus, who is now in Alexandria, having our paternal mortgage concerning the village of Senephta in the middle toparchy from the land of the Demon, forty-six acres, according to the writing sent by him to our father Aristander concerning this handwritten document which was also mediated by Sarapion son of Philiskos, and having received this for a sufficient time, so that not only he himself from what they had brought in of the produce should be fully satisfied with all that was owed by the father, but also that he still owes us not a little more.

Αὐτοκράτορος Καίσαρος Οὐεσπασιανοῦ (Imperatoris Caesaris Vespasiani)
To Tiberius Claudius Herodes, strategos,
from Theon and Aristandros the elder and Aristandros the younger, the three sons of Aristandros from the city of Oxyrhynchus.
Leonides, son of Ptolemaios, from Althaea, who is now in Alexandria, holds our ancestral mortgage concerning the village of Senepta in the middle toparchy, from the land allotment of Damon, forty-six arouras, according to the written agreement made by him with our father Aristandros, mediated by Sarapion son of Philiskos. Having cultivated this land for a considerable time, he has not only fully repaid himself from the produce for what was owed by our father, but also owes us a considerable additional amount...
...he dared, contrary to what is proper and without our consent, to alienate the mortgage in Alexandria to Philostratos son of Zoilos, to whom we have properly sent a notice through you concerning the improper purchase. Moreover, the same Leonides, neglecting his continuing responsibility, obtained from the registry a memorandum addressed to the local collector of foreign debts, claiming other debts owed to him by our father, whereas, on the contrary, he rather owes us, as stated above. He transmitted a copy of this memorandum to us through his son Apion on the fourteenth of the current month Epeiph.
Therefore, we necessarily request that the memorandum be kept on record, and that a copy of it be delivered through an attendant both to Apion, regarding the account of his father Leonides, and to the collector of foreign debts, so that Apion may know that all actions taken by his father Leonides against us are invalid and that our claims against Leonides remain valid. The collector of foreign debts should take no action against us based on the aforementioned memorandum until a judgment is made. For we hold and will continue to hold firmly to all our rights.
(Second hand) I, Theon son of Onnophris, attendant, have delivered a copy of the aforementioned memorandum to the collector of foreign debts and to Apion in person. In the year of Emperor Caesar Vespasian, month Epeiph, 14th day.
