οὐκ ἐγένετο χρεία ἀναλήψεως διώρυγος·
τῆς τύχης σου συνπνεούσης πάντα
λελίμνασται. ὁ ἀπό σοῦ φύλαξ εὗρέ με
ἐπὶ τῆς καινῆς ἀφέσεως ἐκζητοῦντα
ἐργάτας εἰς ἐπένχωσιν. ἐπεὶ μὴ ὕψω-
τῆι οἰκοδομῇ ἡ ἄφεσις καὶ ν[ῦ]ν οἱ
συσχεθέντες ὑπʼ ἐμοῦ εἰς τοῦτο ἐργάται
οὐκ εἶχον σκαφεῖα ἢ σφυρίδας, ἔπεμψα

Hermes to Apollo, the most esteemed,
greetings.
There was no need for the taking up of the canal;
with your fortune breathing together, all
has been accomplished. The guard from you found me
seeking workers for the new release
into the excavation. Since the release is not raised
for the building, and now those
who have been gathered by me for this work
did not have shovels or hammers, I sent
to the peacekeeper of Poios, to whom it is said
to send workers,
twenty indeed for the lifting of the pit,
and four for the keeping.
I sleep in Teruthin, so that I may learn at dawn
with the farmers about the islands, since
