Translation into English

"To the riparian [authorities] of the land of Hermopolis,
from Aurelius Tothis,
Anubion, the village chief,

subsequently signing. I acknowledge and swear the divine
and venerable oath of the one who conquers all,
our lord, the eternal king Augustus, to be guaranteed
by the monastery and the manifestation
of Aurelius Pankolauchin,
of Pollon’s garrison,
of your {your} order
to remain {him} {and} to fulfill
the land
and the release of the waters
of the garrison until the end of the water conservation. If he should
be absent or desert,

English Translation

To the riparian or embankment officials of Hermopolis,
from Aurelius Tothes,
village headman (komarch) of Anoubion,
of the settlement of Pallas in the same Hermopolite nome,
who signs below. I acknowledge, swearing by the divine
and revered oath of our all-conquering lord,
our eternal emperor Augustus, that I guarantee
the residence and appearance
of Aurelius Pankolauchis,
son of Pollon, of the guard
of your unit,
that he will remain and fulfill
the duty of guarding the land
and managing the water supply
until the end of his water-guard duty. But if he should fail
or desert,
I myself will assume responsibility for him,
or else may I be liable to the divine oath
and the penalty concerning this matter. Having been questioned, I have acknowledged this.
