I am greatly reproached.
You have lost two piglets

to remain in Dionysia for two days
until you purchase
the lot (of piglets)
which they say is in the Dionysia
for eighteen drachmas.
If you see the price,
buy the lot of piglets
without delay.
Pursue the allocation
of all the olive trees
and arrange them in the
Senotheos worker's green,
and water the plants
in the prophet, lest you otherwise cause a drought.

μέμφομαί σε μεγάλως. ἀπώλεσας χοιρίδια δύο ἀπὸ τοῦ σκυλμοῦ τῆς ὁδοῦ, ἔχων ἐν τῇ κώμῃ ἐργατικὰ κτήνη δέκα. Ἡρακλίδας ὁ ὀνηλάτης τὸ αἰτίωμα περιεποίησε λέγων ὅτι σὺ εἴρηκας πεζῶι τὰ χοιρίδια ἐλάσαι. περισσὸν ἐνετειλάμην σοι εἰς Διονυσιάδα μεῖναι δύο ἡμέρας ἕως ἀγοράσῃς λωτίνου (ἀρτάβας) κ. λέγουσι εἶναι τὸ λώτινον ἐν τῇ Διονυσιάδι ἐκ (δραχμῶν) ιη. ὡς ἐὰν βλέπῃς τὴν τιμὴν πάντως ἀγόρασον τὰς τοῦ λωτίνου (ἀρτάβας) κ, ἀναγκαῖον ἥγησαι. τὸν λιμνασμὸν δίωξον τῶν ἐλαιώνων τῶν πάντων καὶ τάξον εἰς τὴν Σένθεως ἐργάτην χλωρὸν λιμνάζειν, καὶ τὸν στίχον τῶν φυτῶν τῶν ἐν τῷ προφήτῃ πότισον, μὴ οὖν ἄλλως ποιήσῃς. ἔρρωσο.

Lucius Bellenus Gemellus

I greatly blame you. You lost two piglets from the load on the road, although you had ten working animals in the village. Herakleidas the donkey-driver made the accusation, saying that you had ordered him to drive the piglets on foot. I specifically instructed you to remain two days in Dionysias until you buy twenty artabas of lotus fruit. They say the lotus fruit in Dionysias costs eighteen drachmas. Therefore, as soon as you see the price, by all means buy the twenty artabas of lotus fruit; consider it necessary. Drain the stagnant water from all the olive groves and assign the pale worker to drain the grove of Sentheus, and water the row of plants in the Prophet's (field). Do not act otherwise. Farewell.
