To the most excellent governor, Adiutor, from Didymus Maikenas, who served as the curator and gymnasiarch of the city of Hermes, the great ancient and splendid city. Philammon, the general of the law, has sent me, at your command, to arrive in Alexandria within the thirty days of the decree of Petronius Leo, wishing to accuse me, neither being a public accuser nor having secured the treasury against the slander. I wished, therefore, if it were possible, to set out immediately and participate in your jurisdiction, but since the necessity of the public measurements holds me back in the law; for I myself measure not a few things, and I compel the farmers who owe me to measure on my behalf. I remind you, knowing that the most illustrious governor, Subatianus Aquila, due to the unavoidable nature of the collection, sent back those who were previously in foreign lands to their own laws at the time of the collection. Moreover, I present a greater justification, requesting another deadline for the voyage; for I have been elected as a visitor, having been hired from another land by the most excellent council throughout the entire law, which is different from the most sacred treasury. We ask for more time for the completion; therefore, I request that the present be granted. I happen to have written down that I have arrived whenever I have never written.
