To Lucius Valerius Proclus, governor of Egypt, from Ptolemaeus Diodorus, who is also Dioscorus, from the law of Arsinoe. To your esteemed self, O governor, I pray for the favor that reaches all. I ask what is the number of men who are called swimmers in the law, these being public servants and serving in the management of the waters, waiting for the seasonal beach guards and those who sow. Therefore, they are exempt from all leadership and all service, and they are also fed from the public funds, as it is not permitted for them to engage in any other business at all. Among these, one Isidorus of Mareis, a man very bold and audacious in his manner, through submissions corrupting the regular wages for the sake of shaking and being paid in silver, as I will also prove upon the stated matter, I came upon one of the submissions of a certain Ammonius, called Kaboi, a man reproached and through the unseemly life written down, happening to be a substantial tenant and writing down the proper taxes into the regular account and towards the lease, having made it proper, not allowing them to take advantage of the lease but also closing off the house and providing insult until he even extorted silver from me. Therefore, I have fled to you, the protector of all, and I demand, since I am currently petitioning, to command that the entrance into the law be written to the general of Themisto and Polemon, to hear me regarding the fact that I can present myself in the places to defend against the insult and to be shaken, so that I may be able in the most fortunate times of the greatest Emperor and in your unimpeded governance to live in my own way and O, having been helped. It has succeeded. (hand 2) I have given to Ptolemaeus Diodorus as it is stated. (hand 3) The general of the law will do what is necessary. (hand 4) Give back.
