Aurelius Ptolemaeus, the general of Oxyrhynchus. Of the public matters gathered into one and having caused the table keepers of the coin exchange to be excluded, as they do not wish to approach the divine coin of the Augusti, it has become necessary by command to be announced to all those who possess the tables to open these and to approach every lawful coin except for counterfeit and forged, and to not only these but also to those in whatever manner they are conducting transactions, knowing that if they do not obey this command, they will be tried concerning the magnitude of the leadership and still further above them to become. Αὐρήλιος Πτολεμαῖος ὁ καὶ Νεμεσιανὸς στρατηγὸς Ὀξυρυγχείτου. τῶν δημοσίων εἰς ἓν συναχθέντων καὶ αἰτιασαμένων τοὺς τῶν κολλυβιστικῶν τραπεζῶν τραπεζίτας ὡς ταύτας ἀποκλεισάντων τῷ μὴ βούλεσθαι προσίεσθαι τὸ θεῖον τῶν Σεβαστῶν νόμισμα, ἀνάγκη γεγένηται παραγγέλματι παραγελῆναι πᾶσι τοῖς τὰς τραπέζας κεκτημένοις ταύτας ἀνοῖξαι καὶ πᾶν νόμισμα προσίεσθαι πλὴν μάλιστα παρατύπου καὶ κιβδήλου καὶ κατακερματίζειν, οὐ μόνοις δὲ αὐτοῖς ἀλλὰ τοῖς καθʼ ὅντινα δὴ τρόπον τὰς συναλλαγὰς ποιουμένοις, γινώσκουσιν ὡς, εἰ μὴ πειθαρχήσειαν τῇδε τῇ παραγγελίᾳ, πειραθήσονται ὧν τὸ μέγεθος τῆς ἡγεμονίας καὶ ἔτι ἄνωθεν ἐπʼ αὐτοῖς γενέσθαι προσέταξεν. ἐσημειωσάμην. ἔτους πρώτου Ἁθὺρ ὀγδόη καὶ εἰκάδι.

English Translation

Aurelius Ptolemaeus, also called Nemesianus, strategos of the Oxyrhynchite nome. Since the public has gathered together and accused the bankers of the money-changing tables of having closed these tables because they were unwilling to accept the divine currency of the Augusti, it has become necessary to issue an order instructing all those who own banking tables to open them and to accept every coin, except especially counterfeit and fraudulent ones, and to exchange them, not only among themselves but also with those who conduct transactions in whatever manner. They should know that if they do not obey this order, they will experience measures which the greatness of the provincial administration and even higher authority has ordered to be taken against them.
