To Herostratus, the strategos,
from Heraclea and Onnophris, both of Sarapion,
of the beekeepers of the city of Oxyrhynchus. ―
We have
and to the sons of Heraclea, the beekeepers
four hundred eighty-seven, of which ―
we had
in the village of Toka of the middle toparchy
in a place called Petne in the house of Diogenes
eighty-seven beekeepers, following which we have made
the report in the year of Tiberius Caesar Augustus.
On the 17th of the current month of Augustus ―
in the year of Tiberius Caesar Augustus, having come
to the designated place for the inspection of the beekeepers, we found part of the beekeepers
destroyed, and the rest of the beekeepers
being weak, so that they were in danger of being left behind. And besides this, we asked the lord of the house,
Diogenes, about these matters, and he told me that under Sarapion,
the gymnasiarch of Theon, with whom he brought
along with him secretly during the night all the beekeepers
[were covered with clay] for a sufficient number of days
[and had no] exit for the beekeepers.
