In the third year of the Emperor Caesar Vespasian Augustus, in the month of Caesar, in Theadelpheia of the district of Themisto, according to the law of Arsinoites, Thermutharion, son of Sarapion, has rented for twenty years a piece of land with a boundary of five cubits, with the right of his own man, Didymus son of Ptolemy, for thirty-five years, with a boundary of five cubits at the left knee of Soterichus son of Lycos the Persian of the descendants, for twenty-five years, with a boundary of a finger's breadth, a small hand's breadth, of the left side, the existing one, around the village, a vineyard of a half arouras, or as much as he may wish. This lease is for three years from the date of the fourth year, on the third part of the rented land, of those from the vineyard that are to be harvested each year, of the fruits and crops, pure from public and all kinds of expenses, to be paid from the common fund of the wine expenses and of the desired wine at the wine press. And let it not be permitted to the lessee to leave the lease within the time; but also let him dig the vineyard each year with two diggers, one in the winter, with a fourfold clean one, and the other in the summer with a single plough; and let the cutting of the vine be done in a middle and just manner, not long. And concerning the coming year, for the year of the harvest and the dunging, Thermutharion shall provide donkeys, and the lessee shall provide the covering and the scattering; and let him make the new harvest of five stades and eight of the remaining, the subservient of Thermutharion providing reeds and ropes; and let the lessee complete the water drawing from Pharmouthi from the new moon until the coming of the foot of the watering, for two days, and let him spend providing the water carrier, of all the vine branches being of the lessee, from which let him give each year a thousand of the millets, and let him send the first one still of the lease of the thyme the tenth, and concerning the rest let it be two years for each year of thyme double measure of fourfold. And after the time let the lessee deliver the vineyard clean from all weeds and all the planted ones. If any of these things the lessee transgresses, let him pay for the damages and the expenses double and a fine of five bronze talents and nothing less, for which also let Thermutharion confirm the lease and from the public; let the writing be valid.
